Directed by Scott Weintrob, the documentary tells the origin story of Laurence Tureaud — the man before the gold chains, the mohawk, and the fame of The A-Team and Rocky III. It is produced by Studio Large Eyes, Pantheon Media Group and WWE Films.
The film is part of Netflix's Untold series from Chapman Way and Maclain Way (Wild Wild Country). The Hollywood Reporter announced it on July 21, 2026 alongside two other new entries in the series — one on former NFL quarterback Vince Young, directed by John Henion, and one on Olympic breakdancer Raygun — describing the Mr. T film as an origin story
of the entertainer.
